The Award Selection Process

The criterion for the award is the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Nancy Lieberman during her career. Sportswriters, from across the country, will nominate the finalists and eventual winner. The list of the final nominees is determined by the writers by early February. This list is sent to all the sportswriters and the writers have until early April to return their final ballot. The final ballot has the writers top point guard pick plus the three finalists. We utilize a 4,3,2,1 point system to determine the winner. All final ballots go to the accounting firm, BDO Seidman, for tabulation. The winner is announced during the Final Four weekend. We will invite the winner and guests to our annual award luncheon at The Detroit Athletic Club.
